The JAMA CareerNet Web site is guided by the Principles Governing AMA Publications Web Sites (Winker MA, Flanagin A, Chi-Lum B, et al. Guidelines for medical and health information sites on the Internet: principles governing AMA Web sites. JAMA. 2000;283:1600-1606.) These guidelines were first published March 22/29, 2000. This Privacy Policy was posted on December 16, 2004.
Collection and retention of personal information. The JAMA CareerNet Web site is committed to preserving site visitors' privacy of personal information. The Web site does not collect personal information from a site visitor unless that visitor explicitly and intentionally provides it.
General
When you use some of the special features offered on these JAMA CareerNet pages, the JAMA CareerNet Web site will collect personally identifiable information from you that may include your name, age, address, e-mail address, credit-card number and career-related information such as specialty, Board certifications, education, job interest specifications, previous employment, and other resume-type information. This information will be used to fulfill your requests for services and to communicate with you.
Curriculum Vitae/Resumes
You may obtain assistance with your career through these JAMA CareerNet pages. You are given the opportunity to create a curriculum vitae (CV)/resume and store it on the JAMA Career Net Web site. When your CV/resume is available on or through the JAMA CareerNet Web site, you may choose one of the following options:
- You may store your CV/resume in its database, but not allow it to be searchable by employment recruiters.
- You may hide your contact information, but allow your CV/resume to be searchable and viewable by employers or recruiters. If you elect not to share your contact information with employers or recruiters but do allow your CV/resume to be searchable, responses from recruiters or employers will be forwarded to you.
- You may allow your CV/resume, including your name and contact information, to be searchable and viewable by employers or recruiters.
The posting or distribution of your CV/resume may result in the display to others of personally identifiable information contained in your CV/resume, which may result in your receiving unsolicited messages from third parties.
If you elect to make your CV/resume viewable by employers, all information (including personally identifiable information you include in your CV/resume) may be viewed by recruiters and employers. You should not enter any information in the body of your CV/resume that you wish to remain confidential.
Once you send your contact information to an employer or recruiter or once your CV/resume is accessed from our searchable database, neither the American Medical Association (AMA) nor its service providers are able to control the retention, use or privacy practices of that employer or recruiter.
You may remove your CV/resume from the searchable database on the JAMA CareerNet Web site at any time. However, third parties who have accessed the database or obtained a copy of your CV/resume may have retained a copy of your CV/resume for their own files or database. The AMA is NOT responsible for the retention, use or privacy of CV/resumes in such instances.
Use of information by JAMA CareerNet
The information you provide about yourself shall be used to fulfill your requests respecting the JAMA CareerNet Web site to deliver the products and services you have chosen and in the following ways:
